The UEFA European Championship in Germany has reached a key phase. The top eight teams remain to compete for the Henri Delaunay Cup, the trophy awarded to Europe's best national team.
The group stage delivered some intriguing matches; some teams have disappointed yet still remain in the tournament, while the defending champions, Italy, were eliminated at Round 16.
This Friday and Saturday, four exciting quarter-final matches await, and tether.bet brings you a preview of the European Championship quarter-finals.
The quarter-finals kick off with a match many have dubbed the "final before the final." Spain has been widely regarded as the standout team, while the host nation has had three strong performances, and one not entirely convincing against Switzerland in their last group match.
Spain vs Germany is expected to be an engaging tactical battle, as both teams rank highly in terms of shots on target, passing accuracy, and have conceded the fewest goals. Combined, Spain and Germany have only conceded three times.
There are many similarities between the teams, such as the blend of youth and experience, current stars, and teenagers who are impressing the football world.
The Musiala/Wirtz vs. Yamal/Williams battle will be one to watch on the wings, with former Manchester City players, Gündoğan and Rodri, holding the midfield.
This is a match not to be missed!
Expected line-ups:
Spain: Unai Simón; Carvajal, Le Normand, Laporte, Cucurella; Pedri, Rodri, Fabián Ruiz; Yamal, Morata, Williams
Germany: Neuer; Kimmich, Rüdiger, Tah, Raum; Andrich, Kroos; Musiala, Gündoğan, Wirtz; Havertz
The first day of the quarter-finals will close with another blockbuster clash. Portugal and France, two football giants with players who have either marked the sport or will do so in the coming years.
All eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo, following an emotional rollercoaster in the Round of 16, with tears and a penalty shootout victory over brave Slovenia.
While Ronaldo awaits his goal at a sixth consecutive European Championship, Kylian Mbappé has scored his first in a UEFA EURO, from the penalty spot. France has scored only three goals in the tournament, shockingly, none from open play!
The task will be tough for the World Cup runners-up against Portugal's well-organised defence led by veteran Pepe and the brilliant Diogo Costa in goal, who saved a crucial shot from Šeško and then three penalties against Slovenia to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
France is expected to dominate possession and control the game, while Portugal will likely adopt a more defensive stance. This might be the perfect moment for Cristiano Ronaldo to silence his growing number of critics and lead his team to the semi-finals.
Or, it might be time for Kylian Mbappé and France to show their true quality on the pitch.

Expected line-ups:
Portugal: Diogo Costa; João Cancelo, Pepe, Rúben Dias, Nuno Mendes; Bruno Fernandes, João Palhinha, Vitinha; Diogo Jota, Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva
France: Maignan; Koundé, Saliba, Upamecano, Hernández; Kanté, Tchouameni, Griezmann; Dembélé, Thuram, Mbappé
Saturday will feature quarter-finals from the other side of the draw, which is objectively easier, with favourites England and the Netherlands seemingly set for a semi-final showdown.
However, highly organised Switzerland and a combative Turkey with promising young talents on the wings also have a say in the matter.
First on the pitch will be England and Switzerland. Jude Bellingham saved England and Gareth Southgate with a spectacular overhead kick to force extra time against Slovakia, followed by Harry Kane sealing the win for the Three Lions.
Despite reaching the last eight, the English public remains unsatisfied, and Southgate continues to face criticism for his overly defensive and at times uninspired tactics.
The defence has been solid, with last tournament's finalists unbeaten so far, but England will need to improve significantly to go all the way.
Will Southgate heed the fans' and some players' calls for a two-striker formation or give opportunities to players like Palmer or Gordon? We’ll see on Saturday, but fans of England are calling out for more risks from their manager.
Switzerland is confident about their chances for the semi-finals. Murat Yakin’s team, like England, is unbeaten and showcased their potential and quality by eliminating Italy with an impressive tactical and technical performance.
Xhaka and his teammates have no fear of bigger teams and will pose a significant challenge for England.
Switzerland boasts quality throughout the team, from Sommer in goal to defensive pillar Akanji, Xhaka in midfield, and talented forwards like Embolo and Ndoye.
England to reach another UEFA EURO semi-final?
Expected line-ups:
England: Pickford, Stones, Konsa, Walker, Shaw, Saka, Mainoo, Rice, Foden, Bellingham, Kane
Switzerland: Sommer, Akanji, Rodriguez, Schar, Aebischer, Xhaka, Freuler, Widmer, Vargas, Ndoye, Embolo
The quarter-finals will close with a match between the Netherlands and Turkey.
Turkey played excellently against the favoured Austria, whom they had lost to 6-1 back in March 2024! Merih Demiral became the hero with two headed goals, and Vincenzo Montella demonstrated how to handle Ralf Rangnick's gegenpressing.
With possibly the most combative team in the tournament, an excellent goalkeeper in Gunok, and talented wingers Yildiz and Guler, Turkey is a threat to everyone.
Nevertheless, they enter the match against the Netherlands as underdogs, with Ronald Koeman’s team delivering a solid performance against Romania, securing a convincing victory.
Coady Gakpo, once again in great form, has three goals in the tournament, leading Top goalscorers list alongside three other players.
The Dutch didn't start well, needing to come back from behind to beat Poland, drawing 0:0 with France, and losing 3-2 to Austria.
Lessons seem to have been learned, and confidence in Koeman's team has grown following the 3-0 win over Romania.
Turkey to eliminate another favourite?
Expected line-ups:
Netherlands: Verbruggen, Aké, Van Dijk, De Vrij, Dumfries, Schouten, Reijnders, Malen, Simons, Gakpo, Depay
Turkey: Gunok, Muldur, Demiral, Akaydin, Kadioglu, Calhanoglu, Ayhan, Akturkoglu, Guler, Yildiz, Yilmaz
