The wait is finally over. Continental basketball is back, and this time the spotlight falls on Cyprus, Finland, Poland and Latvia, as EuroBasket 2025 tips off on Wednesday, 27 August.

EuroBasket 2025: Format

Twenty-four teams are split into four groups of six, with the top four advancing to the Round of 16.

From there, it’s knockout basketball all the way to the final in Riga on 14 September.

Total of 76 games will be played over the 15 days of top European basketball.

Serbia comes in as favourites, but in a tournament like this, where one bad night can end your run, no team can feel safe. Expect drama, big names, and plenty of surprises.

Group A: Serbia - The Team to Beat

Serbia look stacked, led by three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and LA Clippers star Bogdan Bogdanovic.

With depth that includes Aleksa Avramovic, Nikola Milutinov, Vasilije Micic, and Marko Guduric, plus veteran coach Svetislav Pesic, they are coming for gold.

Turkiye, coached by EuroLeague champion Ergin Ataman, bring firepower with Shane Larkin, Cedi Osman, and Alperen Sengun, while hosts Latvia will rely heavily on another NBA superstar Kristaps Porzingis and Rolands Smits.

Czechia, Estonia, and Portugal will be fighting for a place in the knockouts.

Group B: Germany and Lithuania Headline

World champions Germany remain loaded with talent. Franz Wagner, Dennis Schroder, and Daniel Theis form the spine of the team, supported by a strong EuroLeague contingent.

Lithuania bring experience and ambition, anchored by Jonas Valanciunas and Rokas Jokubaitis. As hosts in Tampere, Finland will look to their own superstar in Lauri Markkanen to inspire them, while Montenegro with Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic will be no pushovers.

Great Britain and Sweden complete the group and are expected to contest Montenegro for place in the knockout stage.

Group C: Mediterranean Heavyweights

Defending champions Spain, led by Hernangomez brothers - Willy and Juancho, want to send off coach Sergio Scariolo on a high.

Greece count on 2021 NBA champion and Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo under rookie coach, but legendary player Vassilis Spanoulis, while Italy are motivated to deliver for Achille Polonara.

Georgia’s Toko Shengelia and Bosnia’s Jusuf Nurkic could provide upsets, while hosts Cyprus are aiming for a fairytale moment in front of their fans.

Group D: France and Slovenia Lead the Pack

In Katowice, France will push for another medal despite the absence of biggest star Victor Wembanyama. With Evan Fournier, Elie Okobo, and Guerschon Yabusele, they have the depth and grind to go far.

Slovenia, meanwhile, will lean heavily on LA Lakers star Luka Doncic, the kind of player who can carry a team deep into the tournament on his own brilliance.
